Dr. Reem Azhari
Dr. Azhari, founder of Thurmont Education, holds a PhD in Business Psychology with a focus on Organizational Leadership. She has been a nurse leader and educator for over twenty years, bringing a background in management, administration, and university education as a former endowed chair and full professor. She also holds certification in the grief recovery method.
Her experiences in team building, coupled with her work in grief education after the death of her son Adam, led her to establish Thurmont Education. Dr. Azhari is also committed to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations through various means of education.
In addition to her involvement in medical and peace missions in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and the Philippines, she served two terms as the Director of International Health for the United Nations Association-Greater Chicago Chapter. She has advised universities on creating student chapters for the UN.
Dr. Azhari's research on Interprofessional Education has been published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Hospital Administration. She has presented internationally in Melbourne, Australia, Dubai, and Calgary. Her research on COVID education for the Chicago workforce was accepted at Sigma Theta Tau in Scotland. Additionally, she has spoken on workforce development and the nursing shortage at Cardiff University in Wales, and on social determinants and vulnerable populations at the University of Illinois and the Illinois Nurses Association.
The sudden death of her youngest son, Adam, has fueled her passion for working with people experiencing grief.
